"Aarti"

Aarti is the honouring of the Gods,

the murti or the living deity with light.

Aarti helps to remove the obscuration and the darkness of the world,

and ignorance of the mind.

In India, Aarti is one of the most popular rituals performed daily in Hindu temples. It is the ritual that honours and praises God with light. Lamps with wicks soaked in ghee are lit and waved in front of the God and this is accompanied by devotional chants.

Aarti is the yoga of devotion, Bhakti yoga. It is the most beautiful exchange of energy with God. The devotee offers a dance of lights to the Murtis, and God answers by showering light back into the devotees mind and heart removing ignorance and darkness. This blessing is called Darshan.

If Aarti if performed to a living God that is physically present, the effect is multiplied a thousand fold.

In Nithya Nilayam Kriyaji performes Aarti to the Murtis of Babaji, Divine Mother and Hanuman; also some other pujari perform Aarti to Kriyaji.
